Edges of my so-far world
Ooh, ooh! My turn.

The northernmost place* I've been in the world is the Sognefjord in Norway. In North America, Edmonton, Alberta.

The southernmost place I've been in the world is Davis, California. In Europe, Provence, France.

The easternmost place I've been in the world is Serbia (either Belgrade or somewhere on the way to or from Čačak). In North America, Cape Spear, Newfoundland -- as far east as you can go!**

The westernmost place I've been in the world is Tofino, British Columbia. In Europe, London, England.

* on land; my recent flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver took me over Greenland and the high Canadian arctic.

** unless Greenland counts.

Southernmost and northernmost, I can understand (and I suppose I'd answer South Africa and Alaska). But how does one define westernmost and easternmost? I have no idea how I would answer those 2...

Traditionally "east" and "west" have been been defined with respect to GMT, as arono suggests... so really the International Date Line is the border between "easternmost" and "westernmost". If you have been to two neighbouring Pacific islands that straddle the Date Line, you can technically claim to have been as far west and as far east as you can get on this planet - even if you've never been anywhere else in your life.

I haven't really been around much, so my records are all in Europe.

That's about to change pretty dramatically this summer, though. Perhaps we'll be lucky enough to run into you in Japan?

I cleverly defined easternmost and westernmost on my version of the meme using a continent as a reference point... "easternmost place in Europe" for example.
